5 Home Design Trends You’re About to See Everywhere in 2025, According to Zillow

According to Zillow, old-world style will blend with the latest technology in 2025. Think gorgeous cozy libraries, 19th-century sculleries, and antique accent pieces mixed with whole-home batteries and EV chargers. Homeowners are yearning for warm spaces that offer the convenience and sustainability of new tech.

“Energy-efficient and climate-resilient home features are quickly gaining popularity as homeowners look to keep costs down, including insurance costs,” said Zillow’s home trends expert Amanda Pendleton said in a press release. “At the same time, a home is not just a checklist of practical features, it’s a feeling. Homeowners and buyers today are looking to the past to create a sense of warmth, character, and comfort in even the most high-tech environments.”

Zillow looks into its extensive database of home listings to identify emerging trends based on keywords that were more frequently used in 2024 than the previous year. Ahead, discover Zillow’s 2025 home design predictions and gather inspiration for your own space.

Cozy Vibes

In 2025, homeowners are turning into homebodies. Zillow has found that listings mentioning the word “cozy” have increased by 35% compared to 2023. Homeowners are trading open floor plans for smaller spaces that feel cozy and serve specific purposes not only for affordability but also for sustainability reasons (i.e. less space equals less energy usage). Unlike open floor plans that make the kitchen, living room, and dining room one big seamless space, homeowners are now yearning for smaller, color-saturated spaces that feel snug.

Electric Features

“Technology has enabled homeowners to live more sustainably and more affordably, which is a growing priority for prospective buyers,” Pendleton said in the press release. According to Zillow, the mention of “whole-home batteries” in home listings has increased by 62% since 2023, and it is the fastest-growing keyword in their report.

Whole-home batteries store excess electricity produced from solar panels, which provides power at night and during outages while helping save money on utilities. Even more, there was a noticeable spike in the mentions of solar panels (18%), and the words “sustainable” and “green” in for-sale listings.

Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have also increased by 34% since last year. When it comes to kitchens, home buyers are looking for electric ranges and induction cooktops.

Old-World Charm

Going hand in hand with the longing for cozy spaces, homeowners are finding comfort in nostalgia; in fact, this word alone has increased by 14% in for-sale listings since 2023. The keyword “vintage” has also increased in listings by 9% in the last year.

Antique furnishings, floral patterns, chintz, and tapestries are hallmarks of the old-world style. With the resurgence of reading physical books, listings featuring home libraries and bibliophilic decor have increased by 22% compared to 2023.

Sculleries have also made a return (up by 8% since 2023). The Victorian-era room was designed for messy meal prep, and washing and storing dishes, and is often viewed as an overflow kitchen.

Climate Resiliency

Today’s homeowners are focused on safeguarding their homes from climate-related disasters and are searching for homes with defense features. In fact, Zillow reported that 86% of recent home buyers find it very important to have at least one climate-resilient feature in their homes.

These features include flood barriers (which have increased in for-sale listings by 22% since 2023), seismic retrofitting (up 20%), water catchment systems (up 19%), and drought-resistant turf yards (up 14%).

Spa-Inspired Wet Rooms

The typical bathroom setup is out in 2025. Today, people want a spa-like space at home. This is where wet rooms come into play. This luxurious design trend features the shower and bathtub together in an open waterproof space. Wet rooms, which have shown up 19% more frequently in for-sale listings in 2024 than last year, are also designed for accessibility, as they don’t have a shower curb. Zillow says that this bathroom trend is part of a larger interest in designing homes for wellness. Wellness features have been mentioned in listings 16% more when compared to last year.
