Interiors Blinds and Designs Expands with New Boutique Design Studio
When Martin and Dana Adlam bought Interiors Blinds and Designs in February 2023, they weren’t newcomers to the local design scene. Dana, a professional interior designer for more than 25 years, had worked with the original owners, Bill and Ann Spink, since relocating from Greenwich, CT. “I was one of those designers who came in and used their services,” Dana said. “When my clients needed blinds, Bill would go out and measure them. That’s how our relationship started.”
The Adlams purchased the established Hunter Douglas dealership with a promise to carry forward the Spinks’ legacy of “service, service, and more service.” Since then, the couple has modernized the showroom, expanded operations, and introduced a new design studio dedicated to what Dana calls “the finishing touches.”
The company’s blinds division continues to thrive on word-of-mouth referrals and repeat customers. “The core of our business has been focused on Hunter Douglas branded shades and shutters,” Dana said. “That’s been the foundation — homeowners who need expert sizing, customization, and installation of blinds, shutters, and shades including motorization.”
Martin oversees the measurement and installation process himself. “There aren’t a lot of companies that run that way,” Dana explained. “Many hire third parties, but our clients have come to recognize us personally. It’s not transactional for us. It’s very personal.”
The newly opened design studio next door marks a significant expansion — doubling the showroom to 3,000 square feet. Half remains dedicated to Hunter Douglas products; the other half showcases wallpaper, drapery, and textiles for home interiors.
“This new space is hyper-focused on finishing touches,” Dana said. “We’re not acting as a full-service interior design firm. It’s a boutique experience — all about wallpaper, fabric, and custom window treatments that require more time and hand-holding.”
Martin added, “Whether they are stationary panels or fully functional drapery, that takes an awful lot more time, effort, creativity, and input than doing blinds or shutters. Everything we do is 100 percent bespoke.”
While blinds customers often walk in, design-studio clients are encouraged to make appointments. “Sometimes the designer calls on behalf of the client; sometimes the homeowner finds us on their own,” Dana said. “Either way, we like to have that consultation so we can set them up for success.”
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 470-615-7150. Each new client begins with a complimentary 30-minute consultation in the studio to review photos, discuss goals, and outline next steps.
The studio frequently works with outside interior designers who need a resource for high-end custom work. “We’re partnering with designers who could use our experience and expertise,” Dana said. “They don’t always have the time or library of resources to do it themselves.”
For homeowners without a designer, the studio’s in-house consultant Michelle leads most projects. “She’s the first point person now for that division,” Dana said. “I still review projects and meet with her regularly, but Michelle completely runs them. We function like a design firm because we’re very focused on personal service.”
One recent project illustrates how Interiors Blinds and Designs’ expanded services transform a home. Dana began working with a young couple in Arbor Springs on a multi-room renovation through her design firm, Divine Design. “We started with five rooms that needed overhauling — laundry, powder room and bathrooms,” she said.
When the clients were ready to address their windows, Dana introduced them to Interiors Blinds and Designs. “We helped them coordinate timing with the painters, installed temporary ones at no charge and personally guided the clients on how to use the automated options at their home,” she said. “Then they discovered our wallpaper collection.”
Soon, the project expanded to include wallpaper in the dining room, laundry, powder room ceiling, and multiple bathrooms. “It all looked amazing,” Dana said. “They ended up doing blinds for both the main and upper floors. Without Michelle’s help, I couldn’t have managed it all. It was truly a team effort.”
Interiors Blinds and Designs now offers clients the convenience of a trusted local blinds specialist and the sophistication of a boutique design studio — a combination designed for those who value craftsmanship and personal attention.
