The 5 Most Popular Holiday Decorating Trends Of 2025, According To Designers
It’s almost time to grab that Christmas decor from the attic! As you start to think about how you’re going to deck your halls this year, make note of the following five looks that Southern designers say will be trending in full force this season. According to our sources, the 2025 holiday season will be all about burgundy hues, nostalgic touches, and mixed metals, just to name a few looks of note.
Burgundy Everything
In lieu of decorating solely with red this holiday season, why not make some room for burgundy? The color is making major waves everywhere this fall, explains Megan Molten. “I’ve seen it all over the markets and in fashion, which always translates into the home,” says the Charleston, South Carolina-based designer, who calls it “the new red.”
What makes burgundy so special? “It’s richer, moodier, and more timeless,” Molten says. “It brings this sense of vintage luxury that feels so right for the holidays.” And when it comes to choosing an accent color to pair with your burgundy pieces, the designer is all about embracing pops of pink. “It’s such a playful combination: feminine, strong, and unexpected,” she says.
Nostalgia And Coziness

The 2025 holiday season will be all about nostalgia and coziness, according to Marie Cloud, the founder of Indigo Pruitt Design Studio in Fort Mill, South Carolina. This year’s decor is all about “comfort and character,” Cloud says. “I’m seeing a move toward moody, grounded tones—deep greens, raisin, and soft amber— paired with natural textures like wood, wool, and woven fibers,” she explains. “The look feels nostalgic yet elevated, blending heirloom ornaments, layered ribbons, and meaningful keepsakes with modern touches.”
Imperfect Touches
On a related note, Cloud adds, don’t worry so much about designing a tree that feels totally flawless and sophisticated. “This season is less about a perfectly styled tree and more about storytelling, creating a holiday home that feels lived-in, loved, and full of personality,” the designer reflects.
Sara Swabb, the founder of Storie Collective in Washington, D.C., shares similar views, noting that handcrafted details will be big this season. “I love ornaments and tabletop pieces that feel personal and a little imperfect, such as handblown glass, ceramic bells, and embroidered ribbons,” she says. “There’s a return to things that tell a story rather than sparkle for a season.”
Mixed Metallics

In a similar vein, go with a collected look rather than an overly curated one when it comes to your metals this season. “Aged brass, antique silver, and touches of pewter bring quiet glow without feeling overdone,” Swabb says. “I’m embracing patina over polish because it adds depth and a sense of history.”
Don’t be afraid to continue the metallic theme when it comes to your tree itself. “Deep brown and bronze accents as well as gold trees and decorations will be on display,” says Katalin Farnady, the founder of Farnady Interiors in Annapolis, Maryland.
Gorgeous Greenery

If you haven’t been displaying decorative greenery throughout your home in seasons past, consider this year the time to do so. “Greenery is taking center stage, whether it’s draped across a bar or styled with candles and ornaments for a fresh, festive touch,” says Tracy Morris, the founder of Tracy Morris Design in McLean, Virginia. When choosing greenery for your space, Swabb encourages going with a tone on tone look. Skip the red accents, she urges, and go all in with greens. “I’m drawn to subtle variations of evergreen such as sage, olive, and pine, layered with warm neutrals and tactile materials like wool, velvet, and linen,” she shares. “It feels softer, calmer, and more timeless.”
