10 Fall Porch Decor Items This Interior Designer Swears By
As the summer heat fades and the crisp air of autumn sets in, fall is the perfect time to wine away an evening on the porch. And if you haven’t already, start thinking about how to dress it up for the season. Hence we chatted with Jessie-Sierra Ross, a seasonal entertaining expert and the author of Seasons Around the Table. Ross has plenty of ideas for how to add rich autumn colors, patterns, and fall-inspired textures and materials perfect for your porch or any of your other outdoor spaces.
“I don’t think there’s anything better than sitting out on your porch during crisp fall evenings, enjoying a cup of tea or mug of hot cider,” says Ross. With that cozy fall image in mind, Ross shared her professional takes on the best pieces to adorn your porch this fall, along with tips and tricks for how to style the pieces to help them set the stage for you to bask in all the fall activities, like watching the leaves change colors. Here are her favorite fall decor and furniture items from Amazon that are great finds to add to a fall entryway.

Andaluca Preserved Eucalyptus & Dried Flowers Natural Wreath
Filled with colorful dried flowers, grasses, and dusty green eucalyptus branches, this preserved, natural wreath adds loads of interest to your front porch. According to Ross, one of the first decor items she reaches for when changing her porch over for fall is a floral or seasonal foliage-filled wreath. “Your front door is the perfect focal point to start your decorating,” she says, “and for me, it’s one of the most important spaces to really set your theme.”
There are plenty of choices to make in terms of wreaths—be it color, materials, or size. But Ross suggests using a large all-natural dried flower and greenery wreath for your front door. These kinds of wreaths add a lot of texture as well as nature-inspired color to your entry, she says. When it comes to styling, she adds, “you could use a lovely decorative brass wreath hanger to add some vintage charm, or if you’re feeling crafty, glue on a large velvet ribbon for a personal touch.”
Ross isn’t the only one loving the wreath. It has a 4.5-star rating, with 76% of reviewers giving the item five stars. One reviewer, who claims they never write reviews, took the time to point out how this wreath is “exceptionally beautiful and very fragrant.”
Miulee Pack of Four Decorative Outdoor Throw Pillow Covers
If you are looking to redecorate for fall on a budget, one of the most cost-effective ways is bringing in new throw pillow covers. “Instead of buying a whole new set of single-season outdoor cushions, I can change out my original pillow covers for these elegant autumn-inspired linen ones,” Ross points out. For Ross, these covers really caught her eye because she likes their versatility and bright fall color palette. She likes to stick with solid color pillows and then pop in patterns to the scene by way of a cozy plaid throw blanket or two.
To get the fall vibes on your porch bench, Ross says to start by swapping out your outdoor summer pillow cushions for a more autumnal palette. According to Ross, burnt orange, burgundy, rust, and even hot pink are great colors to welcome in the fall season. Add any of them to your front porch to get a cozy autumn look.
Backyard Discovery Garden Farmhouse Wood Bench
Of course, if you don’t have a porch bench for all your throw pillows and blankets, it could be time to get one. Ross really likes the size and weight of this Garden Farmhouse Wood Bench. “It’s small enough to tuck away to store when the season changes,” she says. So, no hassle in relocating this bench as needed.
Ross also thinks the rustic finish adds a lot of character to a front porch. Lovers of modern farmhouse style will especially like the bench’s color and simple construction. “This rich walnut-stained farmhouse style bench is a picture-perfect seat to place right beside your front door,” Ross says. “This solid piece of furniture can help anchor your front porch decor.”
When styling the bench, keep it minimalist to let the bench’s charming character shine through. “Add some seasonal pizazz with a couple of leafy print pillows for a cushy place to watch the leaves change color,” says Ross. Pop in an outdoor knotted throw rug in neutral tones. “Or place a large brown bushel basket filled with white birch logs at one of the bench’s feet for a natural touch.”
Jhy Design Tall Outdoor Candle Lanterns
Don’t forget the ambient lighting when creating a cozy fall space. Ross loves these outdoor candle lanterns because they are lightweight and easy to move around, as well as made of durable stainless steel. “The black matte finish is also very flexible for styling and can add a beautiful touch to any porch or step,” she says. So, even when they aren’t lit, the lanterns are easy on the eye.
“I like adding a little old-fashioned charm to my porch and front step with several metal lanterns of different sizes,” she explains. As far as how to style it, Ross suggests arranging two to three lanterns on either side of your porch, then mix in large pumpkins and other gourds. And think about long-lasting candles to keep the fall festive feels. “Instead of wax candles, I like to pop in a large LED candle into each lantern for that cozy glow.”
Sewroro Wicker Rattan Pumpkins
These wicker rattan pumpkins are made from natural materials and an iron frame, making them sturdy and easy to clean because of their material. “I really like that they’re versatile enough to use throughout the fall holidays as well,” says Ross, who also points out that while they work on a porch, these pieces can also be added to a fireplace indoors for cozy fall nights by the fire. In other words, these pumpkins are as adaptable as they are long-lasting.
Ross likes to pair fresh pumpkins with a few wicker faux versions to add a sculptural effect to her front porch. According to Ross, the human brain is hard-wired to find odd numbers of items more attractive than even ones. Hence when styling her pumpkins, she likes to arrange both the fresh pumpkins and faux pumpkins in groups of three or five, “for the most visual impact.”
Classic Home and Garden Premiere Collection Planter
Looking for a planter for all your fall annuals? This planter is very easy to maintain, and it comes in a variety of finishes, including several options boasting a nice patina finish. “I really love the look of patinaed, vintage-look planters,” says Ross. “These are especially sharp looking when paired with classic fall plantings, like Chrysanthemums or Zinnias, on my front porch.”
Some of the finishes also add a bit of metallic sheen as well some needed texture. Both of these add a nice contrast to the typical autumn flowers or plantings you might be looking to add to your porch. “Fill these gorgeous planters with trailing sweet potato vines or ornamental peppers,” says Ross, “and place beside your fresh pumpkins for a gorgeous pop of fall color.”
Furinno Hardwood Potting Bench
Is your porch a little cramped for space? “Don’t let space constraints stop you from putting out your favorite pumpkins, wicker baskets, or floral planters,” says Ross. You can literally elevate your planters by adding a small potting bench with plenty of space saving features. It’s tall, but compact, and it has three handy shelves for decorating.
Ross says there are many different approaches for styling this feature. “For Halloween, place your favorite jack-o’-lanterns and ghoulish touches on the lower shelves and your bowl of candy on top,” she says, “or drape it with fairy lights and fill the shelves with loads of white pumpkins and gourds for a magical display.”
Bottalive Buffalo Plaid Outdoor Rugs
This brown and white buffalo plaid outdoor rug showcases how mixing simple patterns can create a big impact. But the pattern is still simple enough that you can choose to add in other items. “You can use it on its own, or layer your favorite welcome or novelty mat overtop for a fun effect,” says Ross.
Either way, according to Ross, “rugs are a beautiful way to create an anchoring point on your front porch.” Consider arranging your outdoor side tables or chairs around the rug’s edges to create a comfortable space for conversation, says Ross, or keep it simple with the rug on its own to create a welcoming warm feel for guests as they enter your home. “I really like the splash of color this Buffalo Plaid rug adds to a space.”
Melino Wooden Folding Chair for Outdoor
Whether for the porch, back patio, or wherever you’ve chosen to host your fall bonfire this year (a great fall bucket list item), these folding chairs can work just about anywhere. Pull them out if extra company happens to drop by. Or keep them out regardless of how many people stop by because they “add some extra oomph to your porch decor,” says Ross, pointing out “their structural beauty.”
Aside from their contemporary design-inspired appearance, Ross also likes how the chairs are super convenient and easily stackable. They are like modern takes on the classic Adirondack chairs, “but reimagined,” she says. Just add a cozy faux fur throw blanket and take a seat. “They can be styled both modern or vintage, and the deep chestnut finish beautifully compliments any of your maroon, orange, or red home decor finds,” she says.
Jnaurb Solar String Lights for Outdoor
Another way to bring in some ambient lighting is through string lights that will brighten up a fall evening. But these particular lights come with many other perks besides creating a nice ambiance with their glow. Ross points out that they have a retro feel and can be wound around your porch banisters to create a picturesque front porch experience.
“I also really appreciate that these [string lights] are both shatterproof and waterproof,” says Ross. “They have the added bonus of being solar powered, so you won’t run up your electric bills as you enjoy your front porch.”
